Q: I can't hear anything, whats happened to my Roland keyboard?
A: Common problem when you load in an SVD file. Turn Local Control ON.
Q: When will I recieve the Inspiration Set?
A: You can download the inspiration set immediately after you've registered. If you have any problems email me or ShareIt customer support.
Q: Where will my user bank go?
A: If you have made changes to your user bank remember to save them before transfering any new banks. Use ChangeIt Editor to save your sounds or you can use any Midi sequencer. - (consult your manual for more info)
Q: What are your programing secrets?
A: Ok, alot of people have sent me emails asking for advice on programming so I've written a beginners guide to synth programing on the Roland JV/XP. All in Dynamic HTML! (make sure your using Internet Explorer 4+) Programing Tips
Q: I want to save just a portion of patches from your banks, and put them in my own bank. How can I do that?
A:
- Press [PERFORM] bring up any sounds you want to keep to any channel on a perform patch then press [Disk/Utility] and select SOUND then XFER.
- Set the {type} to "PERFORM" and the {block} to
"TEMP - + PATCHES -> MIDI"
- Press record on your sequencer and hit Enter on your synth. Bzzzz its transfering sysex now! When it completes hit stop. Save your work.
- Now load in your other bank. Press play on your sequncer. And then manually write each sound on channel to your user bank. Viola!
Q: When I'm in performance mode the EFX keeps changing everytime I change a patch.
Edit the performance patch and select the EFX section. Where it shows you the [PERFORM EFX TYPE] screen make sure the {SOURCE} is set to PERFORM and not PARTS-1, or 2,3, etc
Q: I'm new to the XP/JV. How do I write a song with different instruments on each channel?
Heres a sure fire way to get you started on creating "performance patches" so that you can use your xp50 in a multi-timbre mode.
- Press [PERFORM]
- Select one of the performance sets that has PART labled and not LAYER.. like (PR-A 01: HOUSE SET).
- HOLD DOWN [PERFORM] and press [PATCH].. You can now designate the sounds on each channel by pressing the [INC] or [DEC] button or by using the dial.
- Select the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to scroll through midi channels.
To avoid XP/JV channels conflicting with your other synths/samplers you will have to disable a few channels on your on your XP/JV. You can mute channels on the XP/JV by pressing [PERFORM] and hitting any of the [TONE SWITCH] buttons. If your using different gear its important to get hold of a midi expander interface as this will enable you to use 32 or more midi channels rather than just 16.
Q: Can I use patches from older JV synths eg.Roland JV80/JD990 etc....??
Yes! If you have a Roland 'Super' XP/JV you can use any of the sounds on the older JVs and JDs but unfortunately not the other way around. The older synths cannot read the XP/JVs.
How to transfer sounds
First of all make sure your synth is set to recieve MIDI System Exclusive.

1) For the .syx files you will need a Sysex program - like ChangeIt (http://aragon.iitb.fhg.de/moss/changeit.html) or Dumpster

2) Load MID file into any sequencer and play it to your Roland
- Alternatively save the MID file to a floppy disk and play it from Roland internal sequencer. (Consult your user manual for more information).
SVD FILE
3) Save the SVD file to a floppy disk and
load it to the XP50/60/80 disk drive. (Consult your user manual for more information).
